Space Engineers: Wasteland DLC

Wasteland was a racing-focused DLC release for the voxel sandbox survival game Space Engineers. Players can now add specialized wheels and buggy cockpits to their ground vehicles, and explore a new desert planet biome. DLC includes a multiplayer scenario where up to 8 players can race customized hot-rods across the rugged desert terrain of the planet Pertam.

My role on Wasteland was to script the Scrap Race scenario and enable multiplayer racing through visual scripting. This required creating a new system for using checkpoints to track player’s progress around the circuit and rank them from first to last place. My duties included:

•Utilizing the in-house Visual Scripting Tool to expand scenario logic
•Collaborating with level designers to create needed functionality
•Scripting systems for car selection spawning, race checkpoints, and time ranking
•Exploring ways to highlight new features in scenario design
•Working with programming team to refine Visual Scripting Tool
•Assisting with playtesting sessions to iterate on scenario design
